1. First Aid Kit
Accidents can happen to anyone but especially kids. Whether its climbing like a monkey or trying to run as fast as their little legs can take them, they always come back with a boo-boo so it’s a good idea to keep a clean-up kit handy. Most pharmacies sell First Aid Kits or you can create your own clean-up kit. If your going to create your own though, here are some things you should include:
- Band-Aids: Preferably Character or colourful ones are recommended as I have found they stay on longer and are more fun for your kids than the boring beige ones.
- Pain Reliever Medication
- Instant Ice Packs
- Gauze and Tape
- Thermometer
- Tweezers
- Scissors
- Bandage and Clip
2. Hair Brush and Hair Ties
Let’s face it, kids are crazy. I don’t know how they do it but after spending even just a few minutes in the playground my kids end up with knots, bark, leaves, really anything in their immediate vicinity in their hair and it it’s windy then it’s even worse. Having a hair brush and hair ties handy I find keeps them looking like little children instead of

3. Changing Station
You never know when you’re going to have to change your kid so having a changing station set up in your car will make your life easier. You can buy an over the seat organizer bag and keep the essentials inside so you are always prepared. Essentials:
- Baby wipes
- Diapers
- Baby Powder
- Plastic Bags (for dirty diapers)
4. Plastic Bags
If your kids have an accident you’re going to need somewhere to put their soiled clothes, preferably not directly in your car so having a plastic handy is always a plus. Also, having somewhere to put rubbish is also a good idea.

5. Spare Set of Clothes
The most important item being UNDIES! Accidents happen, sometimes they don’t quite make it in time, having a spare pair or many spare pairs of undies will be a lifesaver.
6. Sunscreen and Bug Repellent
The need for sunscreen is obvious as it’s important to protect your kids from the sun however bug repellent might seem a bit unnecessary. Let me tell you, it’s not! There is nothing worse then an itchy kid as they don’t understand why it’s bad to scratch and you can’t stop them most of the time anyway. Always have bug repellent handy so that the mosquitoes can’t chow down on your kids.

7. A Towel
Whether your kid decided to play in a fountain or tip an entire bottle or whatever liquid you gave them on themselves, having a towel handy while your out is a must.
8. Toys
For kids trips in the car no matter how short, are boring. However if they have a toy to occupy them I find the car ride goes a lot smoother. IMPORTANT to keep in mind though, don’t have a toy that makes noise or creates light as it can be irritating or distracting while driving which could lead to a dangerous situation. Having a stuffed animal or doll is the most ideal choice but make sure it’s currently one of their favorites otherwise they might lose interest.
